Moho beneath the Tibetan plateau and the Himalayan region
Moho Tibet

Numerous geophysical studies have addressed the problem of estimating the depth of the Moho beneath the Tibet plateau and the Himalayan region: the structure of the Earth's crust has been studied by several seismic exploration campaigns, studies based on gravimetric inversion and flexural models. However, all these models, based on seismic data and ground gravity observations, are limited by by the lack of data due to the extreme topography of the region. The recent availability of observations GOCE one of ESA Earth Explorer missions, allows for the first time directly to reverse a large amount of gravitational observations obtained in a uniform manner and with high precision.
In this framework a new 3D model of the Moho beneath the Tibetan plateau and the Himalayan region from a direct inversion of gravimetric observations of the GOCE satellite is presented.
